Minimalist makes site load faster?

January 2, 2011

make-site-fasterThis question came up when I re-installing this site once more try to figure out that I just want to make a minimalist site for making the load faster. When the page load included in ways to get our site more ranked in search engine. Google’s official blog launched announcement about this in April 2010, and they were making a tool to test how fast our site loaded. Actually, it’s an add-on for firefox which currently under development, so it’s still a beta release.
I’m blogging and makes all my sites with the wordpress platform because we all know how this platform works really well looked from the seo, customization and other point of view.Speaking about load time, there are few ways to make a site faster. One of the popular methods is creating a customized .htaccess file You can see it how to create a .htaccess file that can be applied to for wordpress only  but for other general php web application in this article.
Using a caching plugin is the easiest way for wordpress blog. There are coupled of plugins which you can simply use it for your site. Just to mention few e.g Wp-Super cache and Wp-Total cache.Cache plugin is great to help improving the site’s load time faster. However, that is only from the server side. So how to improve it from the site’s page itself?
These are some tips, literally general tips but pretty quite useful anyway :
-Avoid using too many widgets ,two -5 widgets would be fine
We may be a little bit tempted to make our site look beautiful, well clearly that is not a bad idea at all. In fact, fact that’s really great because an attractive site pleasant for the visitor’s eye but the most important is how to make it light and beautiful. But we may see vary unncessary widget and too many external link, specially contain an embeded flash. Again, use a valid html xhtml theme. Sites looks and feel are important but the content itself far most important.
-Don’t hot linking any of your images from other sites
If we only hot linking the images fro another site,we loose seo advantage from ALT tag ,the file name with our keyword plus how about if the hot linked site is no longer exist? Clearly the image wouldn’t appear.
-Delete all the unnecessary css line, if you just created one with your customization.
We spend sometimes to customize the look and feel of our site.whether it’s the font, background, color for text, padding, margin and other css stuff. Just make sure not to add an unnecessary lines.
-Use average image quality
High quality image is good if it plays an important role of your site such if you have a design website, photography etc. for one of the view ways to show your work is from your image finest creation to attract the client. However, average quality is enough for other non design website and photography. But if you do want to use high quality image ,that’s fine use some compresion to make the size of kilobytes smaller.
Some hints to be remember,if you plan to reach site’s visitor from different location of the world there are many people still using dial-up connection to surf the internet so make the site loading faster help them as well as help the site itself to get a better rank in the search engine.
Do you think a minimalist site makes the loading faster? It probably hard to answered because maybe the site looks simple and minimalist outside but more complex inside it if we look through the source code. Also it depend how the site’s owner apply the customization.
Anyway,do you like a minimalist site?
