How Diamonds Are Cut

May 25, 2011

In their most instinctive form, diamonds are, well, rather ugly. They have no brilliancy or glow, and in point of fact, appear like nothing more than crushed glass. A diamond must be cut, and then refined prior to it really turns a thing of beauty.

Diamonds are cut with saws, into round builds. From the rounded condition, additional shapes possibly cut, specified heart shapes, but the shape is less essential than the quality of the cutting that’s being made. If the diamond is badly cut, it will drop off light, and it won’t sparkle and glow very well. Each aspect of the diamond must be cautiously cut into the geometric shapes that provide the diamond to sparkle and glow, then the whole diamond is cut into a particular shape, specified an emerald cut or a princess cut diamond.

At one time the cut is made, the diamond is put into a dop, which resembles a cup with some other diamond , only a diamond is solid enough to smooth the edges of another diamond. Once the diamond has been cut and shaped, and had the borders smoothed in the dop, it’s polished on a scaif or a diamond polishing wheel.
