A Universal Cell Phone Charger with no Wires. Pood Idea?
When you’re at the airport or elsewhere and there are a dozen people in line ready and waiting to charge their cell phones on the one wall outlet, there is, you must find yourself wishing there were some sort of a mere wireless universal cell phone charger solution out there. While none exists to help solve your sticky airport situation above, the simple and wire-free part is beginning to become a reality. The product is the Energizer Inductive Charger.
This cell phone charger is a plug-in charging surface.
If you own a Blackberry or an iPhone, you simply put it on the charging surface, and it charges your phone right up. You might have read about the complete inductive revolution a while ago; a few of those reports, in reality, advised that power could travel wirelessly right across a room or a house. That’s not precisely what’s going on here, though. This device solely provides you to keep from tethering your phone right to a charging wire. The device costs approximately $90. And you need to buy a charging sleeve for each device that you try to charge.
The sleeve goes over your smartphone, sort of like a scratch-resistant case. These sleeves are designed in holding with the Wireless Power Consortium’s Qi charging standard (doesn’t that sound like the Chi energy those acupuncturists talk about). Once a phone has the sleeve on and is pointed on the charging surface, it will charge right up. Still, this is an idea that has not actually found acceptance among the consuming public. One reason for this could be that Qi is not the only wireless charging standard out there. People to concern about investing in something that could wind up being the next HD DVD. Even so, if the device sold by Energizer is any indication, the usefulness these products offer could be restricted. For example, it only puts out 5 W of power. That means you could charge GPS devices, digital cameras, and so forth; iPads, then again, would be out of the question, since they use 10 Watts of power.
The sleeves that they sell for your device though need to be specifically made for your device. Whatever your device is, if they have not made a specific one gadget for it, you will be out of luck. And they do not have that many sleeves on the shelves yet either. Still, if you bump to like the feeling that you can simply toss your phone on a charging surface and blank out about it, this could really be the great tech item to own.
