You do not have to own a large farm if you would like to keep animals on your property. You can have just a couple of cows, sheep, or chickens if you want. About people now have llamas and alpacas for the wool on small properties that are not actually farmed. If this is what you have, your farm fencing has to be pretty high. In the case of white-tailed deer, they can jump well over six feet in the air, with some able to jump higher. You have to own pretty tall fencing to keep them where they’re supposed to be. Most cows will stay in an area if you have been electric fencing. This can be as simple as one wire that runs around the perimeter of where you want them to stay. They quickly learn to hate the jolt that comes from these, and they pretty much stay where you want them. Bulls may be the exclusion, as they have been known to tear through to get to a mate. Your females should all be fine with just this simple fencing. Just make sure you install secure gates where you expect to move them from a barn to graze.
Farm fencing for horses is probably the most beautiful, as it is usually would be high enough for them not to jump over, but the wood can be in nice designs and painted any way that you like.
