The Development of Sims 3 Game
The Sims 3 is one of the most popular interactive games now. The game is, in reality, a third installment of the Sims franchise, developed and distributed exclusively by Electronic Arts. In March 19, 2008, the company eventually declared that it was on its way to develop the well awaited Sims 3 game, following the games Sims 1 and 2. In July of 2008, expectant fans were given the very first glance of the Sims neighborhood which appeared in Electronic Art’s official website. This was a video preview which came with several snap shots of the area and of the Create-a-Sim process. Even so, four of the screenshots that appeared on the site were finally taken down because they weren’t given actual approval for release.
Copies of some other video game developed by the company began popping out with fliers advertising the upcoming Sims 3. In the October 2008, 2 trailer videos were released to the public, one showing a comical version of the 2008 US presidential election. The video features four of the famous running candidates, Barack Obama, John McCain, Sarah Palin and Joe Biden.
A year later, spectators were given a more seamless peek of the game when it was broadcasted in one of the CW Series, “One Tree Hill.” The episode began with a Sims simulation of the sequel and a slow transition to real-life actors. The characters featured included Dan, played by Paul Johansson, Lucas played by Chad Michael Murray, and Peyton played by Hilarie Burton.
A promotional disc was eventually released in the market in April of 2009 by Target. The disc included a copy of the official Sims 3 theme song and a $5 coupon. The disc carried a screen saver download, a couple of videos, Create-a-Sim and Create-a-House interface and several others. Although players could not actually play the game on the promotional disc, it gave them a real feel of what the incoming game will exactly be like.
The Sims 3 officially went gold in May 8, 2009. This meant that the game has completed its Beta testing stage and was off to the manufacturing board, available for release. This was one month ahead of its originally projected release date. Seven days afterwards, EA officially released an online teaser with “Sim Social” which granted players to make their Sim characters online. The game was finally made available to the market in June 2, 2009. During the first week, over $1.4 million copies of the game were sold – which was reported to be the most popular launch that the company has ever had. According to the Editor’s Choice badge, this version was the best Sims game ever made.
